What is Hearing loss?
Your ear has three parts: the outer, the middle, and the inner ear. You may have trouble hearing if there is a problem with any of these parts.
Causes of Hearing loss
- Congenital hearing loss
Congenital hearing loss means hearing loss that is present at birth.
Causes of hearing loss in newborns include:
- Infections, such as rubella or herpes simplex virus
- Premature birth
- Low birth weight
- Birth injuries
- Drug and alcohol use while pregnant
- Jaundice and RH factor problems
- Maternal diabetes
- High blood pressure while pregnant, called preeclampsia
- The baby not having enough oxygen, called anoxia
- Genetics
2-Acquired hearing loss
Appears after birth. It can happen any time from an illness or injury. Such as:
- Ear infections. This is a common reason in children.
- Medicines that are toxic to the ear
- Meningitis
- Measles
- Encephalitis
- Chicken pox
- Flu
- Mumps
- Head injury
- Loud noises, like music or explosion
