What is Hearing loss?

Your ear has three parts: the outer, the middle, and the inner ear. You may have trouble hearing if there is a problem with any of these parts.

Causes of Hearing loss

  1. Congenital hearing loss
    Congenital hearing loss means hearing loss that is present at birth.

Causes of hearing loss in newborns include:

  • Infections, such as rubella or herpes simplex virus
  • Premature birth
  • Low birth weight
  • Birth injuries
  • Drug and alcohol use while pregnant
  • Jaundice and RH factor problems
  • Maternal diabetes
  • High blood pressure while pregnant, called preeclampsia
  • The baby not having enough oxygen, called anoxia
  • Genetics



    2-Acquired hearing loss

Appears after birth. It can happen any time from an illness or injury. Such as:

  • Ear infections. This is a common reason in children.
  • Medicines that are toxic to the ear
  • Meningitis
  • Measles
  • Encephalitis
  • Chicken pox
  • Flu
  • Mumps
  • Head injury
  • Loud noises, like music or explosion
